What is AIS?

  • question markThe Academy of Innovative Studies (AIS) High School is an alternative school in Evansville, Indiana, open to students in grades 9 - 12.
  • We are located at the corner of Stringtown Road and Diamond Avenue (in the old North building).
  • We offer a non-traditional learning environment geared to addressing the holistic needs of all students.
  • Prior to enrollment, each student has an Individualized Education Plan or Individualized Service Plan.
  • AIS High School students have the possibility of graduating with a Core 40 Diploma or working toward earning their GED.
  • With smaller class sizes, each student has the opportunity for more individualized attention and instruction.
  • We do not follow a blocked schedule; instead, students take (4) courses every day for one quarter/grading period and take another (4) courses the next quarter/grading period.
  • This allows students to focus on fewer courses, but still earn (8) credits each semester.
  • On-site counseling and assessments, provided by community partners, are available to all qualifying students at AIS.
  • We are fully accredited and led by Principal Elizabeth Carnahan who is also the EVSC Director of AIS Special Projects.
